Huilan (Judith) Cheng, M.D.
Located in Berkeley and Walnut Creek Offices
Dr. Cheng is the current Gastroenterology Division Chief at Alta Bates Hospital and Managing Partner of the practice. She is named one of The Bay Area’s Top Doctors of 2019
Dr. Cheng graduated first in her class in 1994 from Beijing Medical University (AKA Peking University Health Science Center). She completed her internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship training at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Cheng is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. She is a member of American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Cheng is dedicated to provide high quality consultative services in gastroenterology and liver disease, as well as comprehensive endoscopic procedures including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy and capsule endoscopy. She understands the unique needs of female patients and is fluent in Mandarin. She has been practicing gastroenterology in the bay area since 2006.
Lisa Higa, M.D.
Located in Berkeley, Walnut Creek Offices
Dr. Lisa Higa is a Bay Area native and has been in clinical practice for over ten years. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). She graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Hahnemann University School of Medicine. After finishing her medical residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, she completed her fellowship at the UCLA Medical Center and is board certified. She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association. She provides consultative services for all aspects of general gastroenterology. Dr. Higa and her partners strive to offer a courteous and comprehensive gastroenterology practice where patients can feel confident in their doctor, care, and medical procedure.
Mehra Hosseini M.D.
Mehra Hosseini M.D. grew up in the Bay Area. Dr. Hosseini graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC-
Santa Cruz with Honors in Biology and Psychology. He received his M.D. from New York Medical College and went on to UC-Davis for Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology & Hepatology fellowship. Dr. Hosseini has published articles in the American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr. Hosseini holds memberships in the American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology. He is Board certified and has been practicing gastroenterology, hepatology since 1999. Mehra Hosseini’s gastrointestinal interests include inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Hosseini has been Medical Director of the Walnut Creek Endoscopy Center, East Bay Endoscopy Center and Board member of Brentwood Surgery Center. Dr.Hosseini also sees patients at the University of California Berkeley Tang Health Center. He is on staff at Alta Bates Hospital, John Muir Hospital and Alameda
Hopsital. Dr. Hosseini is a Board member of California Integrated Physician Practice Association whose core mission is to promote high quality, cost efficient, integrated care delivered by independent medical practices in California.
Dr.Hosseini is involved with the Berkeley community donating his time to “Walk-with-a-Doc” uniting the community towards health and wellness. He is an avid soccer player and skier, who enjoys watching his teenagers at soccer and cheer. Dr. Hosseini who speaks Farsi and Spanish is dedicated to the wellbeing and comfort of his patients. He has been featured in Oakland Magazine as part of a Best Doctors, Best Practices article.

Subhendu (Bob) Narayan, M.D.
Located in Berkeley and Walnut Creek Offices
Dr. Narayan was born in New Delhi, India and immigrated to America at the age of nine. He was raised in New Jersey, and graduated with “Highest Honors” from Rutgers College with a major in Microbiology and a minor in Psychology. After graduating in 1986 from Cornell University Medical College, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical school honor society, he moved to California to do his residency in Internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship at UCLA and did an additional year of training in advanced endoscopic procedures at the Cleveland Clinic. Since then he has been engaged full time in the private practice of gastroenterology and has previously taught at UCSF. While he has special expertise in advanced procedures, such as ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound, he takes the greatest pride in taking the time in educating his patients about their condition.
