DOES DIVERTICULOSIS (WITHOUT DIVERTICULITS) CAUSE G.I. SYMPTOMS?
Thursday, September 20, 2018

In a study by Peery (ClinicalGastro and Hepatology June 2018), of all patients undergoing screening colonoscopy, 41% had diverticulosis. Biopsies did not show inflammatory changes or markers, and the presence or absence of GI symptoms, such as abdominal pain, did not correlate with the presence or absence of diverticulosis. So, diverticulosis, without diverticulitis, is not a source of abdominal pain or other GI symptoms.
