CELIAC DISEASE NOT UNCOMMON IN OLDER PATIENTS
Thursday, September 20, 2018

Collin, in Alimentary Pharmacology March 2018, found that one fourth of patients with Celiac Disease (true allergy to gluten and wheat) are diagnosed after age 60, and one fifth after age 65. In an older population, celiac disease may go undiagnosed because symptoms may be vague, such as diarrhea and weight loss, and even osteoporosis. So, Celiac Sprue needs to be considered in the evaluation of such non-specific symptoms, even in an older individual.
